Our Story
A name older
than the trade
Numidia was the ancient kingdom that stretched across what is now eastern Algeria — the land of Massinissa and Jugurtha, of horsemen, olive groves and desert caravans. Rome traded with it. The lion was its emblem, carried on its coins and its standards.
We took the name because our dates come from the same ground. Our fruit grows in the palm groves of Biskra, El Oued, Ouargla and Tolga, on the northern edge of the Algerian Sahara — the birthplace of Deglet Nour, the variety the French called la datte de lumière, the date of light, because you can see the sun through it when you hold it up.
The taste is the reason people remember us.
The trust is the reason they
come back.
A Deglet Nour picked at the right moment is translucent amber, semi-dry, honeyed without being heavy, with a clean finish that does not coat the mouth. That is what we select for, and it is the only thing we will put our lion on.
We are not a trading desk. We build one relationship at a time — the same grades, the same specification, the same laboratory report, shipment after shipment, so that a distributor who lists us once can list us again without checking.
